StarWare
“Software that heads for the moon, but finds itself among the stars.”
Welcome to StarWare on GitFlic. We are an independent software workshop focused on a simple, timeless mission: making stuff that is genuinely useful.
Modern software often promises the world while delivering background trackers, artificial subscriptions, and bloated cloud dependencies. At StarWare, we set our sights skyward—building ambitious, high-craft systems with precision engineering—while keeping our feet firmly planted in pragmatic utility. We build software that respects your hardware, safeguards your privacy, and just works.
Core Principles
Every tool, utility, and application carrying the StarWare name adheres to four foundational tenets:
- Pragmatic Utility First: We build solutions for real friction points. If a tool doesn’t save time, eliminate frustration, or provide tangible value, we don’t build it.
- Offline-First & Local Sovereignty: Your computer belongs to you. StarWare applications process data locally on your hardware without requiring internet access, remote telemetry, or external server pings.
- Zero Telemetry, Zero Surveillance: We don’t collect analytics, track mouse movements, or harvest telemetry. Software should serve the person running it—period.
- Lightweight & High-Performance: Fast startup times, minimal memory consumption, and clean native codebases. We reject unnecessary framework bloat in favor of lean, responsive architecture.
Flagship Projects
These core projects represent the StarWare ethos in action:
-
StarDesktop / ModernShell (Windows / WinPE)
A high-speed, ultra-lightweight desktop shell and boot environment engineered for system recovery, embedded deployments, and distraction-free computing. Features native Win32 architecture, sub-second boot times, and zero background services. -
OrbitLauncher (Android)
A clean, fluid mobile launcher centered on intuitive gesture navigation, battery efficiency, and strict privacy with zero data harvesting. -
ClearWater (Multiplatform)
A 100% on-device media cleanup and watermark removal engine that executes entirely on local hardware without uploading your media to remote servers.
Ecosystem & Specialized Utilities
In addition to our flagship tools, our ecosystem includes focused utilities built to solve specific workflow headaches:
| Project | Platform | Description | Key Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| StarExplorer | Desktop | Streamlined, lightning-fast file manager optimized for keyboard workflows, deep filesystem visibility, and instant indexing. | Responsive UI, no indexing lag, clean directory navigation |
| StarPhoto / SnapVault | Mobile / Desktop | High-performance offline media manager and image gallery that organizes libraries locally without cloud dependency. | Private indexing, instantaneous thumbnail caching |
| XFA Form Studio | Desktop | Specialized document engine engineered to render, interact with, and edit complex XFA-based PDF structures effortlessly. | Standalone parser, legacy format interoperability |
| ScriptCraft / KeyCraft | Mobile / Desktop | Intuitive font and typography suite converting custom handwriting and vector paths into production-grade fonts. | Creative independence, vector synthesis, standalone export |
Why GitFlic?
StarWare hosts its core source repositories and distribution mirrors on GitFlic to support independent, resilient, and developer-centric hosting infrastructure. By maintaining clean, accessible Git repositories outside walled gardens, we ensure our tooling remains permanent, inspectable, and autonomous.

Technical Stack & Standards
We prioritize languages and runtimes that deliver maximum control, deterministic execution, and low resource overhead:
- Systems & Performance: C, C++, Win32 APIs, native platform hooks.
- Automation & Tooling: Python 3 (offline tooling, packaging pipelines, binary patching).
- Mobile Applications: Modern Kotlin, Android Jetpack, clean local architecture.
- Data Integrity: Local SQLite, flat-file configs, zero network RPCs for core functionality.
License
All StarWare software is free and open-source, distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPLv3).
We believe that essential utilities should remain transparent, auditable, and forever under user control. Under GPLv3, you are free to inspect, modify, run, and distribute the code, ensuring the software remains sovereign and community-owned.
Getting Started & Contributing
Whether you are auditing our source code, contributing a patch, or testing our release builds:
- Explore Repositories: Visit our GitFlic Profile to browse available projects.
- Report Issues: Use each repository’s GitFlic issue tracker to report reproducible bugs or propose practical feature enhancements.
- Submit Merge Requests: We welcome well-tested, bloat-free contributions that align with our offline-first and zero-telemetry philosophy.
Vision
“Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.” — W. Clement Stone
At StarWare, we shoot for the moon with our engineering standards, but we are thrilled whenever our code finds itself among the stars: running reliably in the background, quietly solving problems, and staying out of your way.
StarWare — Built with care, crafted for utility.
