Overview

The DeDRM plugin for Calibre allows you to remove Digital Rights Management (DRM) from ebooks when they are imported into your Calibre library. Once installed and configured, the plugin works automatically whenever a supported ebook is added to Calibre.

Requirements

Before starting, ensure you have:

• Calibre installed (latest version recommended)
• The DeDRM plugin ZIP file

Installation

1. Download the Plugin

Download the latest DeDRM Tools release.

⚠️ Do not extract DeDRM_plugin.zip. Calibre installs the ZIP directly.

2. Install the Plugin in Calibre

1. Open Calibre
2. Click Preferences
3. Scroll to the Advanced section
4. Click Plugins
5. Click Load plugin from file
6. Select: DeDRM_plugin.zip
7. Confirm the warning dialog
8. Restart Calibre

The plugin should now appear under File type plugins.

Configuration

After installation, configure the plugin to provide the necessary DRM keys.

Open Plugin Settings

1. Open Preferences
2. Go to Plugins
3. Expand File type plugins
4. Select DeDRM
5. Click Customize plugin
6. Click Readium LCP ebooks and enter your password

Using the Plugin

After configuration:

1. Open Calibre
2. Click Add books
3. Select your ebook lcpl file

During import, the plugin will attempt to remove DRM automatically.

Verifying DRM Removal

To verify that DRM has been removed:

1. Select the book in Calibre
2. Click Convert books
3. Convert to another format (for example EPUB → AZW3)

If the conversion succeeds, DRM was removed successfully.
